A Local’s Guide to Breckenridge Coffee Shops

I have this theory about Breckenridge. The locals, well we work hard to play hard. And the tourists, well they come here to mostly play hard. For those always on-the-go, it can be exhausting! Which is why I believe Breckenridge has SO many coffee shops. For the purpose of coffee shop guide blog, I visited EIGHT coffee shops, all within a half-mile radius of each other (and that’s not even including Starbucks or local breakfast spots that serve a local brew either!). Now, don’t tell me that’s not just a little bit silly. But hey, I’m not complaining. We live in a world where personal choice and preference is not just a nicety, it’s expected.

What can you expect when you visit Breckenridge, Colorado? Mountain adventure and a charming old mining town, of course. But you can also have the cream of the crop when it comes to your morning cuppa joe.

Kava Cafe

Unbeknownst to many visitors and even locals, Kava Cafe located on the North end of Man Street Breckenridge is a hidden gem of a coffee shop. Locally owned, the character of the coffee joint is unforgettable. Peruse the eclectic local art scattered across the walls of the small cafe while the baristas whip up your order. Oh and if you didn’t order a mini donut (or 10), did you even go to Kava Cafe? DO NOT miss the mini donuts. That’s all, bottoms up! But don’t spill…caution contains hot coffee contents!

Hours: Monday, Tuesday 8.00am-12.00pm | Wednesday CLOSED | Thursday, Friday 8.00am-1.00pm | Saturday, Sunday 8.00am-2.00pm

Mug Shot Cafe

Located in the Alpine Sports Rental shop, Mug Shot Cafe is frequented mostly by locals, especially since it’s rather hard to find and not on Main Street. But that doesn’t mean Mug Shot can’t serve up a mean cup of morning brew! Personally, I tend to stop by Mug Shot on my way to work from the Breckenridge Rec Center. Don’t miss: phenomenal sandwiches.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 7.00am – 2.00pm | Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7.00am – 5.00pm

Mom's Baking Co.

Nestled just slightly off Main Street in-between Giampetros and the famous Napper Tandy’s, Mom’s Baking CO is a coffee shop spot not to miss in Breckenridge. Why? The owner is up daily before the roosters to whip up some incredible baked goods and delicacies. Got a sweet tooth? Or just need a really good latte? Head to Mom’s Baking CO,  a coffee shop that has it all. Mom’s also tends to be a bit quieter than other coffee shops in Breckenridge which is great if you’re trying to get some heads-down work done!

Hours: Monday CLOSED | Tuesday, Wednesday 8.00am – 3.00pm | Thursday, Friday, Saturday 8.00am – 5.00pm, Sunday 8.00am – 2.00pm

Clint's Bakery & Deli

Known for “serving coffee and ice cream upstairs and breakfast and bagels downstairs,” Clint’s Bakery and Deli is a local favorite spot right on the main drag of downtown Breckenridge. Serving up piping hot coffee (serve yourself style for the drip options), baked goods, and the most delicious bagel sandwiches you will ever try, Clint’s is not to be missed.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday 7.00am – 8.00pm | Friday & Saturday 7.00am – 10.00pm

Cabin Coffee CO

Cabin Coffee Co. is a small chain in a few areas throughout the United States. But in all honesty I would have never imagined so. Cabin Coffee in the heart of Main Street Breckenridge is full of Western charm and homey vibes. Complete with a gas fireplace, wooden rocking chairs, and an in-house roasting room that wafts aromas of freshly roasted coffee beans. Be warned this spot took the trophy for most expensive cup of coffee I tried in the writing of this blog, but no doubt it was worth it!

Hours: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7.00am – 6.00pm | Friday & Saturday 7.00am – 7.00pm

Cuppa Joe

Cuppa Joe coffee shop set just one block off Main Street across from the Breckenridge Backstage theater is in my top two coffee shops. Always busy and bustling, Cuppa Joe serves up a mean brew with breakfast burritos larger than your face! My personal favorite is the sweet potato burrito (add sausage, of course). Friendly local service and great views of the ski area, Cuppa Joe won’t disappoint! Pro tip: call your food order in ahead of time, especially on the weekends!

Hours: Monday – Sunday 6.30 am – 3.00 pm

The Crown

When you’re looking for a coffee shop in Breckenridge with a cozy atmosphere, table to work at, or couch to relax by the fire and chat with friends, look no further than The Crown! Also located in the heart of downtown Breckenridge, The Crown coffee shop offers an array of breakfast and lunch items, plus boozy coffees and beer on tap! Great place to fuel for a day of adventure or relax after being in the Rocky Mountain outdoors! Try the bagel sandwiches – yum!

Cool River Coffee House

Off the path well-traveled, it isn’t always easy to find Cool River Coffee House strolling down Main Street. Tucked away down a sidewalk from Main Street, this Breckenridge coffee & breakfast spot is like a hidden treasure at the end of a treasure hunt. Careful going too hungry, you might just end up drooling on their case of freshly baked goods! My favorite thing about Cool River is the locals burrito for just $5 with a local ID.

Hours: Thursday, Friday & Saturday 7.00 am – 5.00 pm | Sunday – Wednesday 7.00 am – 3.00 pm

Coffee Depot

Coffee Depot in Breckenridge is a cafe I had never been to before writing this article. The shop is located on the south end of Main Street across the street from Breckenridge Brewery. Coffee Depot mostly serves guests of Main Street Station and surrounding condos and hotels but is a pleasant spot for a cuppa! One of the things I liked the most about this coffee shop was the local jewelry and art for sale which gave Coffee Depot a very unique touch!

Hours: 6.00 am – 2.00 pm daily
