Whether you've been in a relationship 3 months or 3 years, it is important that couples make time for each other. I'm not talking about Netflix and Instagram scrolling while eating dinner next to each other on the couch. I'm talking about quality time with meaningful conversation, distractions aside. Background on Our Dating Life. Sean and I met senior year of college at CU Boulder in 2014. We started out as just friends (no really) and shared the same friend group so we often found ourselves seeing each other every day or every other day at minimum. After a while of getting to know each other from a friend level, he asked me one evening if I would like to "go get some food." And the rest is history. Just kidding. We got food, tacos (my favorite), of course, and months later decided it was probably safe to say we were dating. After graduation from CU Boulder, we moved to Denver and had opposite work schedules, which made it near impossible to spend time together aside from "goodnight" and "good morning see you later!"Which is why Sean and I made every Tuesday our date night and our time to be with each other. Tuesday night was, and still is, reserved for an activity, drinking at a new bar, and indulging at a new restaurant in town. We began to take turns planning, one week I would be in charge of planning a date night of surprises, and the next it was Sean's responsibility to decide the activities for date night. This was a way for us to continue to date, although sometimes our adult responsibilities made dating a challenge. Does this situation sound familiar? Episode 1: Picnic and a Blanket. Living in Breckenridge, Colorado is a true treat and we're fortunate that scenic picnic spots are rampant throughout Summit County. If you live in a city not to worry! You too can have a romantic picnic date night - perhaps in a park or on a rooftop with views for miles around or even in your very own living room! Step 1: Pick a theme for your picnic. Two great options are takeout or a picnic basket filled to the brim with delicious noshes. We decided to splurge on an indulgent cheese plate spread complete with the perfect cheese plate components: something sweet, something savory, something salty, and something crunchy. Here's a list of what we picked up from our local City Market: Assortment of cheeses. Loaf of french bread. Almond Nut Thins. Salami. Olives. Grapes. Nuts. Strawberries. Dried Apricots. WINE. Step 2: The next step of a successful picnic date night is to find a picnic basket to hold all your goodies. I found ours at Goodwill for a whopping $4, but Amazon has great options that range from classic to modern backpack style. I love that picnic baskets come complete with wine or beer glass holders, a spot for the bottle opener, knife to cut the cheese (literally), and some even have cutlery, plates and even a matching picnic blanket!
